End of Summer Bucket List

Like all good things, the summer is coming to an end.  Have you accomplished everything on your summer bucket list? Fall is just around the corner, but there’s still time to pack in a whole lot of fun before the first day of school. To help you make the most of the precious weeks remaining before school starts for the kids, we put together a list of some important summer activities you do not want to miss in Houston.

1. Splashtown

Located in far Northwest Houston, Splashtown houses acres of water slides, tube rides, wave pools and interactive children’s play areas. Season passes and discounted group rates available.

2. Minute Maid Park Tour

Experience an up-close look at one of the most beautifully designed stadiums in the nation. Tourists may visit press boxes, dugouts and luxury suites. Be one of the first to arrive and enjoy the view of batting practice from Diamond Club seats. Tours offered daily and last approximately one hour.

3. Children’s Museum

Winner of 2008’s Parent Pick for kids’ activities in Houston, the Children’s Museum provides hours of stimulating entertainment for children as well as their parents. Interactive exhibits in the fields of science, history and the arts include an ecology station, hydropower simulation and building zone. Family Nights are on Thursdays from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

4. Quillian Center Noah’s Ark and Pool

Voted Best Pool by Great Day Houston, the Noah’s Ark is an ideal attraction for families with small children. Shallow water and a variety of toddler-friendly slides and waterfalls make this a safe and enjoyable way for families to escape the heat. The Quillian Center also includes 2 full size swimming pools, a basketball pavilion and an indoor climbing wall for older children. Facilities are available to rent for parties or other large group gatherings.

5. Discovery Green Park

Discovery Green is a 12-acre park located in the heart of downtown Houston. Park visitors can expect to enjoy an interactive water fountain, model boat basin and playground. Several dining options are available and the park offers children’s performances on Saturdays at noon.

6. Go Wild at the Houston Zoo

Located next to Hermann Park near Houston’s famed Medical District, the Houston Zoo has been giving Houston area residents and visitors close-up views of exotic wildlife since 1922. Today the Houston Zoo boasts thousands of animals from all across the world, housed in exhibits encompassing more than 55 acres. One of the newest – and most popular – exhibits is the 6.5-acre African Forest. The Houston Zoo also features a water playground, set as a Galveston fishing village, inside the John P. McGovern Children’s Zoo.

7. Visit One of Houston’s Many Museums

Houston has dozens of great museums. Many of these museums are located within the city’s expansive museum district, making it easy to visit more than one in an afternoon. Some of the most popular museums in Houston include the Children’s Museum of Houston, Museum of Fine Arts – Houston, and the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
