Show Your Home Some Love – Get Your Plumbing Inspected!

Valentine’s Day is a day of showing love and appreciation for those in your life who you cannot live without. What system in your home takes care of you more than your plumbing and septic systems? You can skip the chocolates and flowers but be sure to give some extra TLC to your plumbing by getting it inspected regularly. How well do you know your plumbing?

  • Are there small drips that you have been ignoring for a while?
  • Do you have low water pressure?
  • Are the drains slow?
  • Does your toilet run constantly?
  • Are there noises coming from your plumbing pipes?

They all could be indications of larger plumbing issues. If left untreated, these common plumbing problems could lead to more expensive issues with your plumbing later on down the road. The Plumbing Experts at Daniels Plumbing  have some simple tips to give back the love to your home’s plumbing systems.

Stop and Listen. In a busy, noisy home something as simple as listening for a dripping sound coming from your faucet may seem easy to do but can get easily overlooked. Each drop leaking from a dripping faucet quickly adds up to gallons of water wasted. Choose a time when the house is very quiet, such as early in the morning, or late at night. Listen for any dripping noises coming from your sinks. Listen to your toilets to determine if they are running at unusual intervals, like when no one has recently flushed them. Leaking seals in toilets can waste a lot of water since the flow, although very small, is continuous.

Don’t forget to look under vanities and sinks for drips. Use a flashlight to follow the path of exposed pipes, looking for droplets of water that will accumulate at the lower section before dropping off.

Use Less Water. The less wastewater you produce, the less strain on your septic system. Excessive water usage can put an undue strain on your septic system. By reducing your water use, you can extend the life of your drain field and decrease the possibility of system failure.

An ounce of prevention is worth… a pound of cure, or so the saying goes. Make sure to properly dispose of all wastes so they don’t clog your drains. It also saves you and your septic system a lot of headaches. Don’t put these things down the drain (and into your septic system!):

  • Fats or grease
  • Motor oils or fuels
  • Disposable diapers
  • Coffee grounds, egg shells, nut shells
  • Filter tip cigarettes
  • Sanitary napkins, tampons or condoms
  • Paper towels or rags
  • Paints or chemicals

Your plumbing and septic systems deserve love all year long. So make sure to check in on them this Valentine’s Day.
